What does this renewable energy ranking measure?
What the latest data show
For 2025, Sweden is at one end of the ranking with 65.4 %, while Belgium is at the other end with 14.9 %. The range between them is +50.5 pt, compared with 26.2 % for the EU-27.
What is being measured
The indicator measures renewables as a share of gross final energy consumption. It therefore covers energy use as a whole and should not be confused with the renewable share of electricity generation alone.
How to interpret the result
Two countries can have similar electricity mixes while showing different overall renewable shares because heating, transport and other energy uses also matter.
METHODOLOGY
Ranking methodology
To avoid misleading comparisons, EnergyBoard only ranks countries with a value for the same period as the EU-27. Missing values are never replaced by zero.
